Dysport and Botox are medical preparations, which allow for a great non-surgical technique of wrinkle treatment. Injections of these substances help fight age wrinkles when other, more traditional cosmetic products like anti-aging creams and serums no longer give the desired effect.

There is a widespread belief that Dysport is a competitor to Botox, losing the game to the latter. Yet, such an opinion is not entirely correct. In reality, these solutions occupy equal positions in the cosmetology market.

Both Botox and Dysport injections are based on the action of botulinum toxin type A. This fact excludes any possibility of global differences between them. However, the two preparations are provided by different companies. The American company Allergan produces Botox, while Dysport is manufactured by the French pharmacy giant Ipsen.

What Is the Difference Between Botox and Dysport?

Although Dysport and Botox have the same active ingredient in their formula, it is usually recommended to use them for different purposes.

As a rule, specialists opt for Dysport to remove medium and heavy facial wrinkles, i.e. glabellar lines and rhytids between the eyebrows. Meanwhile, Botox injections are considered a great beauty technology for such wrinkle types as laugh and forehead lines or crow’s feet.

However, both solutions are often used for the treatment of all possible age-related rhytids. So, it is reasonable to consider Botox and Dysport as an alternative to each other. For example, scientists from the University of California state that there is no substantial difference between the treatments when facial wrinkles are at rest.

How Long Does Dysport Last vs. Botox?

The quality of Dysport and Botox is the same, but these preparations offer different duration of their results and speed for the effects to appear.

It is an undeniable fact that the face skin loses collagen due to age-related changes. Botox and Dysport injections are not β€œmagical” methods that can stop the natural process of the skin appearance changing. However, they can help strengthen facial muscles and renew the skin for a certain time.

So, the Botox results stay visible for up to six months. The minimum duration of the effect is three months. Thus, it lasts longer than Dysport does because the outcomes delivered by the second substance last up to four-five months only.

Take into account factors influencing the effect duration:

  • Dose. The procedure is more effective when a larger dose is used.
  • Age. The results last longer in older patients.
  • Sex. Women do not have as strong facial muscles as men do, so the effect lasts longer in females.
  • Treatment area. Some face areas return to the previous state faster, while you can observe the results remaining on the forehead and between the eyebrows during the last months prior to the next procedure.

There is one more difference between Botox and Dysport β€” how fast the first result is observed. Botox boasts a 2.5 times higher content of botulinum toxin than Dysport. Furthermore, the producers use different substances as a solvent. Ipsen gives preference to lactose for Dysport, while Allergan opts for sodium chloride in Botox production.

Therefore, it is usually possible to see the effect of Dysport within two-three days after the procedure. This is faster than Botox can offer since its results become visible only in four-five days.

It is also said that the effect duration could be extended by taking vitamins courses, massages, and dedicated cosmetic procedures.

Which Is Safer: Dysport or Botox?

Botox and Dysport are considered safe preparations. Today, there is no evidence of the superiority of one substance over another.

To assure the highest level of safety and quality of the procedure, it is better to pass all necessary blood tests, consult with board-certified specialists, and find a reputable clinic, which provides Botox injections in Toronto.

In addition, if you care about your health, it is necessary to check the genuineness of the solution you are going to use. Their quality is confirmed by respectable authorities like the American society of plastic surgeons.

Although both preparations are safe and officially approved, they can cause some side effects:

  • watery eyes
  • mild symptoms of a cold
  • redness and bruising in the treatment zone
  • a headache

Such effects last for a couple of days.

However, a would-be patient should consider medical conditions that restrict the use of the preparations. These conditions include pregnancy and lactation, cancer, chronic diseases in the acute stage, and disorders of neuromuscular transmission.

What Is More Expensive: Botox or Dysport?

The average cost of Botox and Dysport injections is not the same. If you choose Dysport, the cost varies from $4 to $8 per unit. The Botox price varies from $11 to $16 for one session.

Consider that these preparations are quite expensive to manufacture, so the procedure cannot be very cheap. If you stumble across a proposition with a too low price, most likely, the proposed solution is fake and dangerous for your health.

Does Botox Have More FDA Approved Indications Than Dysport?

Allergan’s product really has more FDA-approved indications, which explains its higher price.

Botox is confirmed by FDA as a treatment used to improve the condition of frown lines (medium and heavy) and wrinkles around the eyes. It is allowed for use in everyone who is 18 years old.

Dysport has an official FDA approval as well. It is recommended for dealing with glabellar lines, cervical dystonia, and spasticity in adult patients. Moreover, Dysport is available for teenagers and kids over two years with lower and upper limb spasticity.

What Is Better: Botox or Dysport?

They are equal players in the industry and the best methods to relax facial muscles and renew skin elasticity.

If comparing Botox versus Dysport, the former is more expensive, but its effect lasts longer (up to six months).

The final decision depends on individual peculiarities and preferences along with a specialist’s recommendations.
