1. Onions Can Help Fight Bacteria

Onions contain special compounds that can fight harmful bacteria. Some of these bacteria include:

  • E. coli: A type of bacteria that can cause stomach problems.
  • Staphylococcus aureus: This can cause skin infections and other health issues.
  • Bacillus cereus: A bacteria that may lead to food poisoning.

Onions can kill germs because they have something in them called quercetin. This strong chemical keeps your body safe by stopping germs from growing.

2. Onions May Help Prevent Cancer

Scientists think that onions may lower the chance of some types of cancer, especially those that affect the stomach and intestines.

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) may be slowed down by quercetin, which is found in onions. Stomach cancer and other very bad diseases are linked to this bacteria.

9. Onions May Help With Weight Management

It’s not good for your health to be overweight. Quercetin, which is found in onions, has been shown to help lower body fat and speed up the metabolism.

Cooked and raw onions are both good for you, but in different ways. Onions can lose some of their antibacterial qualities when they are cooked.
