If you’re looking for a simple yet powerful way to improve your heart and digestive health, walnuts may be the answer.

According to recent study, eating just half a cup of walnuts daily could significantly benefit both gut microbiome and heart health two areas that are more connected than you might think.

Researchers from Penn State University followed 42 overweight or obese adults aged 30 to 65 who were placed on different diets over six weeks.

One group consumed walnuts daily, while the others followed similar diets without walnuts.

The walnut group saw remarkable changes in gut bacteria, which researchers linked to reduced blood pressure and cholesterol levels – major risk factors for heart disease.

Two specific strains of gut bacteria, Eubacterium eligens and Lachnospiraceae, increased significantly in those who ate walnuts.

These beneficial microbes are known to support metabolic health, lower inflammation, and help manage blood pressure.

The other two diets did not produce these positive changes.

Experts recommend replacing unhealthy snacks with two to three ounces of walnuts a day that’s about a handful or half a cup.

Not only can this help improve gut balance, but it may also reduce the risk of cardiovascular events like heart attacks and strokes.

Walnuts also offer bonus benefits, including reduced inflammation and potential cancer-fighting properties.

As more research emerges, scientists are exploring their impact on blood sugar levels too.

For U.S. readers looking for a heart-smart, gut-friendly snack, it might be time to make walnuts a pantry staple.

Whether added to salads, oatmeal, or eaten on their own, this simple daily habit could lead to long-term health benefits – naturally and deliciously.
